BABIES grow up, which is perfectly natural, but when the 206 grew to become the 207, it seemed a little unnatural. After all, the 207 is now smack between the 306 and 307 in terms of body size, critical dimensions and outright interior space. Placed side by side with the outgoing 206, the 207 is super and its predecessor is mini. Style-wise, the newcomer swops the old car’s perpetual prettiness for an aggressive appearance that looks larger than life from the front. Pretty details are limited to cheeky LED-effect taillamps; everything else is athletic aggression, like a young lion at play. There is no lion-heart under the bonnet, although 120bhp from 1.6 litres is respectable. Effectively the same engine turbocharged powers the 175bhp 207 GTi (Carma July’s Main Event) and the current Mini Cooper S. |
